Baseball Hitting InstructionChoosing The Correct Baseball Hitting Instruction For You Hitting clinics are popping up like Starbucks these days. While this can be a great thing, it can also make things very confusing… Just some of the questions I get on a daily basis about hitting instruction… How do I choose the right hitting instruction? How do I know the hitting instructor is right for my child? His resume sounds good, but how do I really know he can teach hitting? The goal of this article is to help you choose who the right hitting instructor for you truly is… 1. Watch the instructor in action Before you can even consider someone for personalized baseball hitting instruction, go watch them perform a lesson along with your child. This will help you decide if your child will feel comfortable with this individual and in this environment. Beyond wanting to put your child in a situation that they will be happy about and comfortable, one needs to be comfortable to hit. So if you want them to improve, they must feel comfortable. Virtually no one does this, but everyone should before choosing baseball hitting instruction. 2. Forget the hitting instructors resume Sure, an instructors experience can be beneficial, but it doesn’t guarantee success. Just because someone played pro ball, doesn’t mean they know how to teach hitting. In my experience, the best hitters in the world often have no idea what their mechanics truly are. They just can do it. This doesn’t mean they work hard, but it does mean some guys were just born to hit and are success despite their work ethic, not because of it. Take their resume into consideration, but don’t choose them because of their resume. 3. Interview other clients After you have narrowed your choice, ask the hitting instructor for a few references of happy clients. Any good instructor will provide these. Simply ask the individuals about their experience with this baseball hitting instruction. You will be surprised what you will learn and how this will help you make your selection. 4. Meet with Instructor Once you’ve selected your instructor, sit down with them and ask questions about what to expect & let the instructor know what you expect from them. This way, both sides know what to expect & what is expected of them. And both sides can and should be held accountable. This will increase your chance of success ten-fold. 5. Look for improvements Once you’ve selected your hitting instructor, be sure to monitor improvement… Are both sides holding up their end of the bargain? Is the instructor utilizing what’s best for your child specifically or are they trying to mold them into some crazy pre-determined swing mechanics? Remember, great hitters don’t all look the same, but they do a few things exactly the same. Your child should be learning these traits without being molded into a computer. At the same time, is your child doing the extra work outside of the lessons? In order for the baseball hitting instruction to work, extra work must be done. If extra work isn’t done, no one should expect any improvements. A hitter should have minor improvements every session, assuming both sides are doing their jobs. If they aren’t, something is wrong. This article is meant to help you sift through the countless facilities and individuals that offer hitting instruction. By following them, you improve your chances to maximize this education.
