There are two factors that determine what makes a Web site stay on. First is the great design. The other is the site's theme, or the types of content and data that readers can get from it. If the site is to gain high traffic, not only should the subjects be interesting, they should also be well-arranged and managed for quick browsing and navigation.
But, just producing great content is not adequate. Your Web site may have hundreds of unique articles and still not get high backlinks and recommendations. Everything you have toiled over to make your site stand out is wasted. If this is your problem, it's time to look for refuge under the wing of Web directories.
There is no one type of Web directory. Since readers can get lost in the vastness of the Net, Web directories either carry all kinds of links or go the themed route. Thus, before you decide to add URL to Web site directories, you should at least find out what market they are trying to service. You'll be able to reach your target readers if you go with categorized lists. Joining various categorized online directories at one time also helps raise your popularity.
In addition, it will not do you good to submit to only one Web directory. If getting popular is what you're after, apply for hundreds or even thousands of online directories. It will be a tiresome activity at first but you'll be thankful once the hit counter starts to soar. For guaranteed listings, sign up with paid directory listings, instead. There are free Web directories and listings everywhere but you are not assured of a place. With paid directories, you are sure to find your links posted in just a week or less from the time you paid.
Qualifications for membership to free directory listings vary. There are online directories that make their applicants undergo a screening process first before getting them on board. Thus, if you have an unprofessional site that has no content, do not get high hopes that you'll have priority assessment.
In all, to be featured in internet directories, you should produce a Web site that is convincing both the target market and the Web directory you're applying for. If the content is crap, the site will not survive long. It doesn't matter how breaking the articles are, if the site's too cluttered and ill-navigated, it's not likely that you would have staying readers, much more a loyal group. Web directory services may want members who can pay, but they are not that desperate to welcome even the worst.
